“
Canada’s Sweetheart of Skating”
"I get excited thinking about the five minute call, when everybody
puts on their skates, the lights go out, the spotlights go on and
all the people are screaming. I love it!" – Josee
Chouinard.
Josee is still one of the most recognized skaters in Canada.
Canada laughed with her, smiled with her, and yes, even cried
with her. She captured the hearts of Canadians wherever she went.
She saved her most brilliant skating moments for performances
on Canadian soil.
Josee got her first pair of skates when she was seven years
old. She started taking lessons at age nine
at Les Lames d'Argent, Club de Patinage Artistic de Laval where
she met her first coach, Johanne Barbeau. Johanne taught Josee
from when she started to skate all the way to two of her three
National titles. Later in her career, Josee moved to the Granite
Club, in Toronto, where she trained under the guidance of Louis
Stong.
Josee still skates in professional shows, and coaches 'up and
coming stars'. She recently performed in the Celebration on Ice
show. She lives in Newmarket, with husband
and former pairs champion, Jean-Michel Bombardier. Jean-Michel,
and
Josee
got
married in
the summer of 1997.
